Abstracts from the Diary (days
1, 2, 3, 4).
Day 1 – April 10, Good Friday
Early in the morning did the crew wake up to depart on their journey to the capital of America: Washington D.C. For six hours, we drove with only one stop at the Goddard Space Center. We had lunch there and explored the museum that was there as well. Finally, we reached our hotel. We set belongings down and decided to walk around the city. We walked by the Washington Monument, White House, Lincoln Memorial and many other monuments and memorials. At around eight o’clock, the crew went home where Valentina and Olga prepared dinner in the kitchen our room had. Very tired for the trip to the hotel, the crew went to sleep delusioning about their upcoming day.
Day 2 – April 11, Saturday
The crew had to wake up early in the morning to arrive at the capital very early. It was very hard to eat breakfast in a rush for the entire crew. It was very easy to find a parking spot at nine o’clock on a Saturday morning. Although none of the Congress members work on Saturday, the Capitol was packed with tourists. We had to wait in line for about thirty minutes to get tickets to enter the Capitol. First we were led to a movie that showed us the history of the Capitol. After, a tour guide showed us a little section of the building. It seemed as we just walked right through it all. Then we stood back in the line that came after the movie and we attached ourselves to a different guide who showed us everything in the Capitol. At around twelve, the crew went to the American History museum. The National Museum of American History collects, preserves and displays American heritage in the areas of social, political, cultural, scientific and military history. George had trouble finding a parking spot, so while everyone else wandered around the museum, he drove around looking for a spot. At two thirty, it was time to eat lunch. George still did not find a parking spot and the rest of the crew did not get to see everything of the museum. Everyone decided to just go to the hotel and have lunch; we could always save the museum for another day. For about an hour, the crew had time to rest. George’s old friend, who he had studied together with, invited us to his home in Maryland. There was very good food there and we had a very good time there. We came home at around ten o’clock and went to sleep right away.

Day 3 – April 12, Sunday
Waking up at the usual eight thirty, the crew was ready to leave in an hour. Our plans were set on the air and Space Museum for today followed by going to the theater and watching “The Call of the Wild”. For almost three hours, we trudged along a tour guide who explained every single detail he knew about the different types of planes, helicopters and space aircraft. The museum maintains the largest collection of aircraft and spacecraft in the world. It is also a vital center for research into the history, science, and technology of aviation and spaceflight. After following our tour guide, we finally decided to climb to the top of an old airport watch tower, located at the museum. Both Anton and Eugene were extremely tired so everyone decided that we should go to the hotel and eat. George had some trouble getting to the hotel, even though he was guided by a GPS, which kept saying “Route Recalculation!” every other minute. After eating lunch and dressing up, the crew was ready to depart to the theater. Arriving a couple of minutes late, the employee guided us to our seats. The musical was more of a combination of the many works written by Jack London rather than just the Call of the Wild. The show ended at ten o’clock so the crew arrived eleven and went to sleep thinking they were going to get some rest the next day.
Day 4 – April 13, Monday
Today was the day that Eugene and Anton were allowed to sleep more than usual. They slept for an extra fifteen minutes! As everybody finished eating and packing up their belongings, we loaded the car with boxes, suit cases and back packs. Today was the day that the three monkeys (Eugene, Anton and George) were going to visit the spy museum. We drove around D.C. looking for a place to park. After about 30 minutes, we decided to park our car at one of the meters. Valentina and Olga went to the National Art Gallery Museum while the monkeys went to spy on a museum. The International Spy Museum is a privately owned museum dedicated to the field of espionage. At first, the crew at the spy museum embarked on an adventure to find a stolen atomic bomb. For an hour the group decoded messages, stalked their victims, and eventually saved the world. Then the real learning part of the museum came. The crew walked through hallways containing of historical facts and information. At around one o’clock, George, Anton and Eugene went to the American History Museum to see the rest of the museum. At around two o’clock, the crew was ready to departure on a one way trip back to New Jersey. While we were driving we stopped to eat lunch. When we finished the crew kept on driving home. We made it safe and sound when Eugene was still sleeping.
