Map and directions
Philadelphia is the largest city in the Pennsylvania and the fifth-most populous in the United States, with an estimated population in 2014 of 1,560,297. In 1682, William Penn founded the city to serve as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787.
An annual blockbuster event in Philadelphia, and the world’s oldest and largest indoor event of its kind, the Philadelphia Flower Show draws more than 260,000 people to Center City Philadelphia every year. The Flower Show’s impressive large-scale gardens, landscapes and floral creations will all rally under this year’s theme - Explore America: 100 Years of the National Park Service - which will honor the National Park Serice’s centennial.
With over 140 bronzes, marbles, and plasters, the distinguished collection housed in the Rodin Museum represents every phase of Auguste Rodin's career. Located on Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway, which was intended to evoke the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the elegant Beaux-Arts style building and garden offer an absorbing indoor and outdoor experience.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is the cultural heart of a great city—the place for creative play, with a surprise around every corner. Besides being known for its architecture and collections, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has in recent decades become known due to the role it played in the Rocky films: Rocky (1976) and five of its six sequels, II, III, V, Rocky Balboa and Creed. Visitors to the museum are often seen mimicking Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone)'s famous run up the front steps, now known widely as the "Rocky Steps". "Rocky Steps" at the Philadelphia Museum of Art as the second most famous movie location behind only Grand Central Station in New York.
